Upon arrival at Mitiga International Airport, our meet-and-greet manager will assist you through customs and immigration before transferring you to the Victoria Hotel. On the way, you’ll catch your first glimpses of life in the capital. At the hotel, meet your English-speaking guide, who will brief you on your upcoming journey. After lunch, the tour begins with a visit to the WWII Cemetery, followed by an old Christian church and more sites reflecting Tripoli’s layered history. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
After breakfast, travel south into Jebel Nafusa, where stark mountains give way to fertile plateaus filled with olive groves and vineyards. Visit the 12th-century fortified granary of Qasr al-Haj, one of the “World’s 80 Greatest Treasures” (BBC), then continue to Nalut to explore its impressive Qasr. After lunch, descend into the Sahara and drive to Ghadames, one of Libya’s oldest towns. Dinner and overnight in Ghadames Stars Hotel.
Spend the day exploring the “Jewel of the Desert.” Wander through its UNESCO-listed old town with labyrinthine mud-brick streets, visit the Cultural Museum, the Great Mosque, and the Main Square. Enjoy a traditional lunch inside a restored local home, then head to the dunes at sunset to watch the desert glow in hues of gold and red. Overnight in Al-Waha Hotel.
Leaving the desert behind, journey back north with stops in Kabaw and Gharyan, the largest city in Jebel Nafusa, once a center of resistance against Italian occupation. Visit its famous troglodyte cave dwellings and pottery workshops, known for their exceptional clay craftsmanship. Continue to Tripoli. Overnight in Victoria Hotel.
Drive west to the World Heritage Site of Sabratha, once part of Rome’s Tripolitania Province. Admire its stunning Roman theater, temples, basilicas, and mosaics overlooking the Mediterranean. Return to Tripoli to explore the old medina, mosques, and the Arch of Marcus Aurelius, before continuing to the elegant Italian-era quarters with their 1920s–30s architecture. Today is dedicated to Leptis Magna, one of the greatest Roman cities of antiquity. Once a Phoenician port, it reached its zenith under Libyan-born Emperor Septimius Severus, rivaling Rome itself. Explore its vast forums, basilicas, baths, and colonnaded streets before returning to Tripoli for dinner. Overnight in Victoria Hotel.
